this little number is something i've been wearing literally. every. damn. day. this summer -- or at least as much as i possibly can without anyone noticing. the dress is from everlane and is so ideal for summer that i can't stop throwing it on. i even talked about this dress five minutes ago on the blog, that's how good it is. the shade of blue is perfect, as is the length, as is the get what i'm saying. sadly the blue version is sold out, but i also love this cut in the yellow stripes.

one more thing? do yourself a favor, and purchase one of these amazing rope bags from apprvl (you'll thank me later).

summer is in full swing here in boston, and it's almost too hot to move. thankfully we got a chance to escape the city last weekend, tucked away in a cute little cabin on a lake in Maine. our days were spent kayaking (so fun!), playing cards, reading, drinking cold beer, and soaking up every second of lake life. before leaving i was feeling an overwhelming sense of "meh" (you may already know that summer is not my favorite season). but once we got to the lake, i felt so much better. i was completely shut off from the internet, took a million photos of fox, got a chance to read all day long and i came back refreshed, motivated and clear-headed -- it's amazing what a little getaway can do for your soul. so rather than lamenting the heat, i am trying a little harder to embrace these warm days instead. i'm not sure if it's my change in attitude or the maine air (or both!), but i've been feeling v. inspired since getting back home. right now i am gravitating towards really bright primary colors: red, white, blue and yellow just feel like the season -- especially in stripe form. the mix of textures and shadows here are also really inspiring, along with imperfect lines, and obviously those striped chairs.

fall is my favorite time of year, yet i can't help but feel a tinge of sadness for the end of summer in New England. i'll miss the beach trips, nightly BBQs, picking fresh veggies from the garden and those long days, the most. i know summer will technically be here for a few more weeks, but my mind is already focused on all things fall. so before fulling embracing the new season, especially on here, i figured i'd give one last tribute to sweet summertime -- florals, wicker and the perfect shade of raspberry red:

straw bags are all the rage this summer, and i'm fully embracing it. in fact, a straw bag is the perfect finishing touch to a casual summer dress, and is every beach goer's must-have accessory. these natural beauties have been on my wish list for the past few months, and i think i'm close to finding my perfect match. since there are so many great options out there, i wanted to share ten of my favorites -- from stripes, to fringe, and polka dots, i kind of want them all:

what to wear when it's 100 degrees | @themissprints

this, my friends, is exactly what i want to wear on those 100 degree days. we've had a solid month of 90+ weather here in Boston, and with more hot days on the horizon i've pretty much exhausted my trusty collection of summer dresses. it's come to the point where i wear the same thing every week. (yes, i have a wednesday dress). so to make my life a little less predictable, i've been building a wishlist of summer frocks -- including this awesome patterned shift. the simple shape is ideal for the hottest of days, and the print is fun and tropical. i'd wear it with really simple accessories: mules, sunglasses and a round raffia bag.

so far this summer has been quick (how is it august 1st already?), and very, very hot. even though we're smack in the middle of a major heatwave, i'm dreaming of running off to an island vacation.

Valentino's 2017 resort collection is a new favorite, and really captures my palm-tree-state-of-mind right now. it was inspired by Cuba, with cheerful tropical patterns: pineapples, hibiscus flowers, parrots, palm leaves and snakeskin.

it's the dream vacation wardrobe -- bright and bold, with a 1950s elegance. i love the tea length skirts and ladylike shapes.

while ruffled off-the-shoulder tops are all the rage right now, this simple knitted tunic feels fresh. especially when paired with piles of prints.

this floral pattern reminds me of a modern Marie Antoinette. also, note the pineapple earrings. #dies

plus stripes.

summer stripes. is there anything better? as a New England girl, summer stripes mean red, white and blue with a splash of preppiness. it's classic, bold and always perfect. so perfect, you could easily wear it every day for a week:

working from home, exploring a seaside town, hanging with friends -- this is an outfit that you wear on repeat. a stripe on stripe, easy cotton, mix and match look for all of the above.

phew, tgif. that means spending some time with my better half -- preferably in a lovely off-shoulder pinstripe dress like this one, with beachy waves. once the clock hits 5pm, i'm running off for a romantic end of week date.

the fact is, Saturdays are always the best days. i am plotting a luxurious morning spent lounging around the house, then plan to tackle a few projects while wearing this.

this smart, and (i assume) ridiculously comfortable Osman frock is all i want to wear for a Sunday stroll along my favorite Cape Cod beach in Truro, or window shopping in Newport.
