FRESH PRINTS

FRESH PRINTS / FW 2016

i made this post back in October when fall was on my mind, but never got around to publishing it. better late than never, right?

fall is, hands down, my favorite time of year. for us New Englanders, fall is nature's moment in the spotlight and it really is as magical as people say it is. it's when Boston turns deep scarlet, gold, and bright orange, and when mornings become brisk and chilly -- you start to crave those cozy layers and wool sweaters after months of long summer days. although winter has a bad reputation around here i am one of those people who loves freshly fallen snow, and heavy coats.

the cooler months are also one of my favorites time for fashion. now that the holidays are here, it means the return of wearing plaid and reaching for pieces that layer. it also means reinvention and experimentation for fresh trends. right now it's luxe velvet and fuzzy stuffed animal furs. i've seen a major resurgence of embroidery motifs, irreverent sayings, as well as abstract lines reminiscent of Matisse. the 70s trend is also pretty great, and feels more 'now' when paired with blush (the color of the moment) mustard, and marble.

so without further ado, here are a few of my favorite things right now --

GINGHAM IS BACK

ok, so gingham -- aka spring's favorite print -- may not have actually gone anywhere. it's a true classic pattern, akin to stripes and florals. and like spring florals, it makes it's return each year. which means you probably already own a gingham item or two hidden in your closet.

pull those pieces out front and center because: this season is gingham's time to shine!

forget gingham picnic blankets, and sugary sweet Easter dresses. right now, gingham is cool, fresh and sophisticated. i especially love it because brands and fashionistas alike are fearless when it comes to piling on the prints: that means gingham with gingham and more gingham for this print-happy girl.

read on for a mishmash of gingham-patterned inspiration that i've been really loving as of late, from vintage finds, to right-now styles. but, you won't see the typical spring pastel pallet here -- i've been drawn to bright blues, oranges and deep grays instead.

this looks like one piece, doesn't it?!  the simple styling -- classic black loafers, messy hair, delicate gold jewelry -- and easy silhouette makes this look covetable.

MISS PRINTS TIP!
try playing with scale when mixing gingham with gingham. or buy a piece that already comes pre-mixed -- like this amazing blue jumpsuit.
